h2. What is a push notification?

Push notifications let your application notify a user of new messages or events even when the user is not actively using your application. Notifications can be broadcast to all users, such as for a marketing campaign, or sent to a subset of users, to give more targetted information. As such they can be used to build audience loyalty and keep your app front of mind.

App Studio uses push notifications to ensure that users are made aware of latest issues (Android) or that the app auto-downloads a new issue (iOS Newsstand)

In order to give you the best choice of options for push notifications and other user engagement channels, App Studio currently offers integration with 2 different providers: Parse [https://www.parse.com] and AppBoy [https://www.appboy.com] and Urban Airship [http://urbanairship.com]
