Metadata via InDesign

You can add the metadata for your InDesign file via my.appstudio.com simply by clicking the edit button on it using the form field which pops up.

If however, you want to add multiple metadata entries to the one InDesign file, you can follow the below process.

Please note, the structure described below must be adhered to work correctly.

You will need to create several tags if they are not already in your InDesign template/file:

  • Root
  • article
  • advert
  • section
  • title
  • tags
  • tag
  • pageref

To create each tag, please follow the below process:

  • Open the tags window (Window > Utilities > Tags)
  • Click on the “New tag” button 
  • Enter a name for the tag.

View the structure window for adding metadata:

  • Open Structure (View > Structure > Show Structure)

Add an article tag to the InDesign document:

  • Click on the “Root” Tag.
  • Click on the “Add an element” button
  • Select “article” and click “OK”.

Add a title tag to the article tag, and enter the metadata for the title:

  • Click on the “article” Tag.
  • Click on the “Add an element” button
  • Select “title” and click “OK”.
  • Right click on “title” and select “New Comment”
  • Type in the title and click “OK”.

Add a section to the article tag as per the same steps above so your structure looks like the following:
Add tags to the article tag, and enter the metadata for them:

  • Click on the “article” Tag.
  • Click on the “Add an element” button
  • Select “tags” and click “OK”.
  • Click on the “tags” Tag.
  • Click on the “Add an element” button
  • Select “tag” and click “OK”.
  • Right click on “tag” and select “New Comment”
  • Type in the name of the tag and click “OK”.

Assign the article to a page by doing the following:

  • Create a rectangle which overlaps the page
  • With the tags panel open, select the 'pageref' tag
  • You will notice this tag appear at the bottom of your structure window
  • Drag the 'pageref' tag and drop it over the 'article' tag so the tag sits within the article
